Hi
Sorry about the short notice of this event, but, I forgot to post to the blog. The 'poster' says it all. 'Click' on the date and address below to link to Google maps, or see the map below all of this.
Sat. Feb. 16th 11052 Ventura Blvd Machesney Park Il 1 to 5 pm cst. If you get a chance, come on out. The rest of the lineup is great. We're pretty good. You'll have a good time.
HI
we're gonna go see Arlo Guthrie tonight @ the Coronado Theatre. Should be an interesting evening.
Here is a man who performed @ the original Woodstock, not the reruns.
He's a good storyteller, and musician, with a humble demeanor.
Let you know how it was. . ..
They were excellent! Had to share!
Hi
we went for a bike ride today with Mollie & Bill. We rode from their house to Rock Cut park, where Bill and I did a lap around the park, and then, back to their house. Maggie did great! Best ever, I think. Tore it up, and didn't get fatigued. Good practice for our trip to Wisconsin later in the week.
Home for a shower and a nap and then out to dinner with Mollie and Bill. Mollie's company did the window blinds for a new chain restaurant in the area. Granite City Brewery. So, since the restaurant did a dry run for opening next week, they hand out dinner passes to test the cooks and staff. Mollie's company got some, so they took us to try it out. It's not bad. Not great, but not bad. Might go back, but it's pretty uninspired. Just like most chain places, but the waitress was pretty good, and it was free. . .
Had a coffee @ the closest Starbucks, and then home to watch West Wing, and relax, since we don't have to rise early on Monday.
Oh yeah, the pic is from Peggy's jam yesterday. She was nice enough to send a couple pics of us.
Time for bed. More tomorrow. . .
Yup, we were on the back porch last night jamming with Doug and there in the early darkness I saw a lone firefly lift itself from the lawn and blink away into the night.
So very appropriate at the end of a very glorious summer day. Cloudless blue sky, soft breeze, bright sun. If you sit still enough you can hear the garden growing. I'm endlessly fascinated by the shapes of leaves, the colors and contrasts of green against green and the movement of sun and shadow across the yard.
We made sure we took some time just to "be in the moment" of the day. At one time I would of thought of how many things I could be doing, but I've realized that sometimes you just have to "be". The answers can't always be chased down. Sometimes being quiet lets the answers make their way to you.
Hi
we're gathered up with our stuff to head off to the last Poplar Grove jam of the season, and probably, the last one. . .
The band that's facilitated it for the last five years is tired. . . Don't blame them, it's hard work. They are looking for someone to take the baton, so to speak, and get going next season. Hopefully, someone will step up.
We're off to see what happens, music wise. . .
Morning,
headed into work early, ok, even earlier than normal today. Today is my true test of geekness, being on a Skype webcast with Leo Laporte on Canadian TV. I have to leave work a little early to come home and get the set ready, and get my makeup on (just kidding about the makeup). This week has been one of those anomaly weeks. Time has moved so slowly during the day, but, here it is Thursday already. Would be a good question to ask Mr. Einstein when we see him again. . .
Anyway, we're ok, just a taxing week, ha ha ha. . . Oh, the bluegrass jam in Poplar Grove is this Saturday, so come on over and have a good time with us. . .
Hoping for a bike ride this Sunday, and a little yard work in there too.
Only a month 'til the next Pirates movie, arrrrr, so clear the decks for the Memorial Day weekend. . .
Gotta go, see you later. .
bye.
T
Hello there, happy Sunday. Hope your weekend was good. It's already Monday in Tokyo, so take advantage of what you have left today.
Speaking of weekends, our was quite eventful. First, and foremost, it was Maggie's birthday on Saturday. Considering everything that's happened this year, we had real reasons to celebrate. We'll do the partying thing in NYC next weekend, and the weekend after that we'll have a soup and a song party graciously hosted, so to speak @ Mollie & Bills house. (THANKS FOR ALLOWING US TO USE YOUR HOME)
So, on Saturday, we played @ the Bluegrass valentine jam @ the riverhouse b&b. A jam packed house and we got open. We had an interesting set. Two Judy Collins tunes, Route 66, a couple tunes that nobody knew, a song by our friend Keith, and a song that I've known for 33 years, but never performed in public. Maggie was wonderful, singing, playing, and being the shining personality that she is. I'm so proud of her. . .
We did ok! Our friends, Mollie & Bill, Jeff & Nancy, Chris, Keith, my sister Jeannine, , my very tall , professional nephew Tyson, and two co-workers of mine all came and cheered, and listened. THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!
Several bands played. the jam band , Jan and Mike and Mark, and several others that tore the place up. We all joined in @ the end for the quintessential band jam, and finished off the day with a gospel medly. The place cleared out after that some, but people were warmed up so it was off @ the races for the next couple hours, just for the fun of it. We stayed a while, but it was time to celebrate by ourselves. There are pics @ our flickr site, and short videos @ youtube. You know where to find them.
Thanks for sharing our big day, and the fact that we get to celebrate. . .
More to come later. . .
Oh, don't forget to check out the other blog too. Sometimes there is other content there. . . or not. . .
Hi
well, let's see. We're headed out to pick up Doug and bring him
over for a short jam. We spent the morning putting laundry away,
picking up, and the usual putting the holiday to bed things. Later,
we're headed to a martini party (oh boy) that Christie and John are
having for Jennifer from Italy. Nice people, but I don't like vermouth.
Guess I'll have a chocolate one instead.
Tomorrow, we will make a
batch of chili, run errands, rest, and then head to McHenry for a new
years eve potluck/jam @ Mike's house. That'll go 'til morning. We got
home last year @ 5am. Gettin' too old for that more than once a year.
See you tomorrow. . .
What do the simple folk do. . . . . . ?
You know, one should never ever say, " You know, I haven't had a cold in years". Cuz in the next couple days the universe will slap you up the side of your stuffy head with a big box of tissues, and laugh. . . .
First Maggie came down with it last weekend, and then 48 hours later, me. I haven't had a cold, no less one this bad, in years. Whew. . .
Anyway, we're getting back slowly into the swing of things. As you all know, the world famous Soiree was last weekend, and we had a ball, as the last posting shows. This week, it was work, sneeze, cough, and more work, 'til Friday evening, when we went to a potluck christmas party @ Merlin and Cindy H's house. All the employees from the store were there. Good folk, good food, and conversation. It's amazing all the different foods that end up @ a potluck. Such variety and they're all just to good to leave alone.
It's what we do here in the midwest. Well, some of the things.
Saturday morning, as always, Maggie had to go in for a couple hours and do stuff. When she got home, we grabbed our guitars and headed off to the Dec. jam @ the grove.
Always a fun time. An interesting variety of different musicians this time. Kinda makes you have to think on your feet, unless you are sitting down. . . . Jan made it. It's always so good to see her. She acts like she is really happy to see us. Such a nice young lady. . .
We could only stay for a couple hours since the Whitney christmas party was later in the evening. We sat with Mary Sue, Charlie, Lisa and Vern. The Quillens were there too.
Food was good, and we had a chance to mingle, talk, and visit. Whoo hoo, no games this year, and there was a DJ who wasn't bad. Unfortnately, we had to leave early, since we went to work @ 6 this morning. Oh well. It's the most wonderful time of the year, you know. . .
Today it's naps after Maggie gets home from playing in the office and @ the counter. Some decorating, and maybe visiting with friends. The slope is getting steeper and more slippery to the holidays. I'll try to stay updated here. Thanks for stopping by, but it's time to get to work around the house.
Later. . . .
